Dad’s Little Helper
Dad’s Little Helper has been a wonderful partnership with the Men and Their Children (MATCH) group at St Helens Family Hubs.
Artist Josef Minta has worked with dads, male carers and their children to create a parenting booklet full of artwork, tips and signposting from families who attend the group .By sharing his lived experience Josef was able to relate to dads and male carers about sleep deprivation, the pressures of milestones and keeping up with peers, the importance of time out and self-care both for themselves and in support of mothers and birthing partners.
With a range of creative skills Josef was able to respond to the dads’ needs through a wide variety of mediums – collage, poetry, rhyme, hand-printing, drawing and mark-making. Teenagers were happy to illustrate pages for younger children to colour in & add puzzles such as dot-to-sot. Families have opened up and developed creative confidence as the project progressed.
