HUG & HUG EXPERIENCE is a vibrant outdoor contemporary circus theatre performance and living installation that promises to engage audiences in a unique exploration of relationships - between people, objects and the environment that surrounds us.

Through a fusion of aerial dance, physical theatre and striking visuals, the audience is invited to rediscover the power of touch, connection and the simple act of a hug.

HUG is supported by Without Walls and commissioned by Ensemble Festival, Brighton Festival, Stockton International Riverside Festival. Supported by Centre 151. Supported by 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space.


Bhangra & Bollywood! by Sohan Kailey

Prepare to be exported to South Asia as Sohan Kailey takes you on an epic Indian Adventure.

With dance, music and interactive storytelling. Join the Maharajas Express Train Journey from the foothills of the Himalayas, Let's Bhangra Dance in the farmlands of the Punjab, go shopping in New Delhi, take a camel ride in Rajasthan, experience the energy of Bollywood in Mumbai and the tropical rainforests of Kerala and South India. 

Audience participation is a must and this is for all ages! 










Toast by Pif Paf

11.00am & 1.00pm

A big hearted journey around the world and through the seasons with live music, food, stories and dance!

Join the Guild of Toasters at their Toast cart for 45 minutes where they mix performance with audience sharing their promises of change and celebrating loved ones. They provide pancakes, coffee and the wonderful Cypriot Doughnuts in a show like no other.

The show is forged from songs and stories shared with us by people from around the world living in Sheffield and mixed with Pif-Paf’s unique theatrical vision.

Expect flying pancakes, singing, dancing, 9 tailed dogs, wild grannies a bit of eating and drinking and lots of laughing and new friends.


The Turnpike Gallery

11am - 3pm

Get creative with The Turnpike Gallery on Civic Square Launch Day!

Find artist Craig Atherton on the civic square and make your very own printed artwork inspired by the magic runes of Make. Believe.

Upstairs in the Turnpike Gallery, explore the immersive Imagination Station with Sophie Strain and create your own cosy den for telling stories.


Spirix Dance

11.50am & 1.50pm

'Fearless, not flawless. Spirix Youth Dance Company brings together young dancers from Leigh to create bold, ambitious work and make their mark on stage. Rooted in our town and driven by the energy, ideas and individuality of our young people, this performance is about taking risks, backing each other and showing what Leigh’s next generation of dancers can do


Leigh Archives

11am - 3pm

Discover the past of Leigh's civic square from Suffragette protests to miners' strikes, then build your future Wonder Town in a collaborative LEGO project!

Be inspired by photographs from the Archives and dress the part with our historical costume box




Leigh Library

11am - 1pm

Drop-in with the team at Leigh Library and read with Cliff the Therapy Dog. Trained in the Pets as Therapy Read2Dogs scheme, reading with Cliff can help young people to improve their literacy skills and encourage confidence and concentration with reading.
