Environmental Responsibility
At Wonder Arts we place arts and culture at the heart of our work with, for and by families, children and young people. Within this, and guided by our vision, mission and core values, we recognise that we have an ethical and moral responsibility to care for, protect and safeguard the environment through our practices and activities.
We are committed to improving our environmental performance across all of our activities and we strive to be environmentally positive, rejuvenating, restoring and adding value to the environment. We are equally committed to monitoring and reducing our environmental impact and try to minimise the impact of our activities on the environment.
Through our Environmental Policy and Action Plan we have achieved the following:
Established an annual environmental training programme for staff/Trustees
Renewed our Environmental Policy/Action Plan and added review of actions as Board agenda item
Embedded environmental impact into our bespoke evaluation framework
Reduced our audience carbon footprint to just over 1 tonne CO2e (from 2 tonnes in 2021) through targeted marketing campaigns to encourage sustainable travel
Prevented 30.9 tonnes of CO2e from being emitted through subscribing to Ecologi which plants trees to offset carbon emissions attributable to our programme
Our future environmental actions and targets are:
To deliver hyper local activities to limit the carbon footprint of audience travel to under 1 tonne CO2e (per town)
To engage with climate-related programming and commissions and programme environmentally conscious work / themed artist development
Deliver creative environmental engagement to promote environmental action
As a building less organisation we embed environmentally responsible thinking in everything we do, from operations (re-assessing and choosing our suppliers) to participation projects (environmental heritage), to commissions/programming (hyper local and environmental themed events) and partnerships (e.g. Forestry England) to help support our environmental commitment.
We recognise that good environmental management makes good business sense and we believe that in order to be a sustainable organisation we should consider our environmental, social and financial performance and responsibilities.
