Young Volunteers Bring Wonder In The Street to Life!

Wonder In The Street brought together 950 visitors for an unforgettable family day out, and at the heart of it all were our amazing young volunteers - Seb, Jim, Seth, and Niamh - who helped make the day extraordinary.

Here’s a ‘day in the life’ of the young volunteers at Wonder In The Street:

Rise & Shine 🌟:

The young volunteers arrive at the event venue early to start the day. Saturdays are normally for sleep-ins & gaming but today these teenagers suited up in their hi-vis’ and got to work on their first task, designing chalkboards! Chalkboards that would welcome the 950 visitors and showcase the events artistic spirit. Armed with colourful chalk and boundless imagination, they transformed plain boards into vibrant works of art.

It’s fun, Interesting and an experience I wouldn’t get elsewhere
— Jim, Young Volunteer

Building Connections🚧:

As the event gates opened and families began to arrive, our volunteers transitioned from artists to ambassadors. With festival information leaflets in hand, we got on our walking boots and as a team walked around the town centre handing out leaflets with friendly faces.

Each interaction was an opportunity to share enthusiasm about the day's activities, point families towards the amazing artists that were performing and ensure that no one missed out on the full Wonder In The Street experience.

I volunteer because it’s great experience for the future
— Seth, Young Volunteer

Audience Feedback is key 🗳️:

As the event reached its peak energy, our young volunteers took on a crucial role in capturing the community's response to the event. Armed with clipboards and surveys, they moved through the crowds, engaging with families,, and visitors to gather valuable feedback about their Wonder In The Street experience.

Feedback forms are no easy task and even the most seasoned of feedback takers find it difficult at times but our young volunteers stuck through it with friendly smiles and got some amazing feedback!

I love volunteering with WonderArts it keeps me busy
— Niamh, Young Volunteer

The final push & bringing it to a close 🏋️‍♂️:

As the last visitors departed and the artists drive away into the sunset our volunteers faced their final challenge: helping to transform church square back to its everyday state. The set-down process required determination and grit.

“Only one table left!”

“Someone grab that Chair”

“We’ve lost a water gun”

The set-down is no easy task but our young volunteers approached it in the same way they approached the rest of todays task, with a huge grin and laughter.
