Creativity for A Wonderful, Greener Future

Today we celebrate Earth Day!

At Wonder Arts we are passionate about our ongoing commitment to care for our environment through creativity, collaboration, and conscious action.

As a building-less organisation, we have a unique opportunity to think differently about how we work. From the spaces we use to the artists we collaborate with, sustainability is embedded in our decision-making.

We prioritise hyper-local venues such as libraries and community spaces, helping reduce travel emissions while bringing high-quality creative experiences directly into communities.

We also encourage sustainable travel for our audiences, staff, and artists, and wherever possible, work with local creatives.

As a result of the actions we’ve taken, we’ve been able to:

  • Reduce our audience carbon footprint to just over 1 tonne CO2e (from 2 tonnes).

  • Prevent 30.9 tonnes of CO2e from being emitted through subscribing to Ecologi which plants trees to offset carbon emissions attributable to our programme.

Our environmental responsibility extends across every part of our work.

  • We reduce our carbon footprint and offset emissions through tree planting initiatives.

  • Provide locally sourced vegan and vegetarian catering at events.

  • Minimise waste by reusing materials and limiting print.

  • Where possible we try to work with Northwest based Artists for projects. 25% of our artists come from the Liverpool City Region, and a further 30% from North West.

  • Even behind the scenes, we’re mindful of our digital impact; regularly reviewing and reducing data storage to lower our environmental footprint.

  • From 2026 we have introduced a new way of measuring our carbon footprint by audience member per year, to give us a more accurate picture of our organisational carbon footprint.

This commitment is also reflected in our artistic programmes with many shows featuring an environmental theme.

Our Young Wonders group are currently developing a brand new show, A World Once Wonderful, which explores themes of climate action, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. As part of the creative process, they have been designing and building puppets using recycled and discarded materials; demonstrating how imagination can transform waste into something impactful.

Through projects like this, we aim not only to reduce our impact but to inspire the next generation to think differently about the world around them.

This Earth Day, we’re proud to continue taking steps, big and small, towards a more sustainable future filled with….
